Chapter 1

The English Exam

In the present chapter we are going to list each administration and their respective English

evaluation tests.

For each administration, we are going to provide all necessary information candidates need

to take note of in order to understand exactly what kind of competition and

English level

is

required of them. For a complete and more comprehensive list of all the topics requested to

take this test, please refer to the next chapter, where all the main grammar content will be ex-

plained in full and in detail.

1.1 VFP4 (Air Force, Army, Navy)

The

VFP4

(Four-Year Voluntary Military Service) trainee to be is supposed to take an English

pre-selection multiple-choice test. This test is usually introduced by the release of a database

some time before the actual exam date. According to the CEFR

1

, the English level assessed

is the

B2

. No further English examination is expected by this administration.

1.2 Army Marshal

Candidates who intend to take on the

Army Marshal

competition are supposed to take a pre-se-

lection multiple-choice exam (30 questions). The potential exam questions will be released some

time before the exam in a database. Although they are both composed of a multiple-choice test,

the CEFR level which the candidate for the Army Marshal is expected to reach is the

C1

level,

which is quite standard in many army organizations. No further English examination is expected.

1.3 Army Officer

The

Army Officer

will be expected to take a multiple-choice

C2

level English test (20 ques-

tions), whose possible questions will be released in a database. This kind of examination is

structurally similar to the aforementioned exams, although the grammar requirements may

substantially vary for the Army Officer compared to the Army Marshal. However, it will be

administered as a pre-selection test as well as the other organizations’ tests.
